A third NPP may be built in Kazakhstan
Tengrinews.kz - Minister of Energy Almassadam Satkaliyev commented on the instruction of the Head of State regarding the determination of the site for the construction of the second NPP (nuclear power plant) in Kazakhstan.
The minister assured that the decision will be made in the near future.
"For the second NPP, we were instructed to determine the site. This will be done in the near future. Preliminary work has been carried out, we will analyze it, there will be appropriate consultations with both public figures and environmental organizations," Satkaliyev said at a briefing by the Ministry of Energy in Astana.
The Minister of Energy did not rule out the possibility of building a third NPP in the country.
"After this, a decision will be submitted to the government on the second and, possibly, the third NPP construction site in Kazakhstan. We see that the second station will also be built by someone or a consortium of already qualified potential vendors because a very deep analysis has been conducted on them. We see them as potential contractors for the construction (of the NPP) in Kazakhstan. The capacity will be determined based on the region of placement," the minister added.
Earlier, during an extended government meeting, President Tokayev instructed the government to look for sites for the construction of the second NPP.
