Why you shouldn’t call back +870 numbers and the risks involved
Tengrinews.kz - The State Technical Service (STS) has issued a warning to Kazakhstanis regarding calls from numbers starting with +870.
According to the STS, the +870 phone code belongs to the Inmarsat satellite communication system, which is used for communication at sea, in the air, and in remote regions.
"However, fraudsters actively use such numbers for scams, as they visually resemble Kazakhstani numbers," the statement reads.
Scammers may also use other similar Inmarsat codes:
+870 – General access code to the network (SNAC)+871 – Atlantic Ocean, East (AOR-E)+872 – Pacific Region (POR)+873 – Indian Ocean (IOR)+874 – Atlantic Ocean, West (AOR-W)
It is noted that the +870 code is general and is used when the specific satellite handling the call is unknown. However, SNAC does not support calls to Inmarsat-A terminals.
"Do not call back unknown numbers with the +870 code or similar ones! Do not share personal data, SMS codes, or your bank card details. If someone from such a number asks for a code or any information, it is a clear sign of fraud. Never disclose any information," the STS warned.
