I Accept Zohran Mamdani’s Rose
In case you haven’t already fallen for Zohran Mamdani’s undeniable rizz, the mayoral candidate is making an official bid for New York City’s love. During Wednesday night’s episode of The Golden Bachelor on ABC, Mamdani’s campaign ran a local Bachelor-inspired ad. In a dimly lit room with scattered candles and twinkly lights, the 33-year-old smiles straight to camera, appealing to both the heterofatalist and apathetic Democrat in me, and says, “You deserve better.”
“You deserve to be able to raise your family here, to be safe, to travel where you need to, free of cost and worry,” he says. “You deserve someone who works as hard as you do, who thinks about you — every second of the day. That’s the kind of mayor I promise to be.”
Then, in a nod to the ceremony so many of us have been watching for nearly two decades, Mamdani reveals a rose from behind his back, flashes his pearly whites, and asks, “New York, will you accept this rose?”
Mamdani’s campaign told Deadline that the spot is one in a series bundled in a seven-figure ad buy — this one was apparently intended to reach older voters. Hopefully, whatever subset of New York’s over-60 demographic that is also #BachNation understands his appeal: affordable housing, health care for all, and a mayor who doesn’t make you want to throw up in your mouth. Take the rose, New York. Take that rose.
