On Saturday, the second episode of Saturday Night Live season 51 aired with Role Model as the musical guest. Leading up to the episode, fans were wondering: Who would be his Sally? The singer has accumulated a lengthy list of famous people to dance on stage during his performance of “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out,” and fans were speculating that his special guest could be former SNL stars such as Tina Fey, Molly Shannon, or host Amy Poehler. Instead, Sally was none other than Charli XCX — a great choice.

The singer wore a black leather skirt, boots, sunglasses, and a T-shirt that read “Max’s Kansas City,” which some believe was a shot at Taylor Swift amidst their alleged feud. After the release of The Life of a Showgirl, fans speculated that “Actually Romantic” was a response to Charli’s song “Sympathy is a Knife,” which fans theorized was about her complicated feelings toward Swift.

Now, I wouldn’t say this is Charli confirming the rumors, but it could very well be a cheeky nod to them. Nothing like some British humor! It could also have to do with Role Model’s album, Kansas Anymore, but it’s likely that the artists were drawing attention to Max’s Kansas City, a former nightclub in New York City that’s now a non-profit providing emergency resources to people in the creative and performing arts.

It looks like the T-shirt was not referring to the Missouri city where the Chiefs play, so we can put those rumors to rest. Maybe Swift will be the next Sally?
