RIP, Tika the Iggy, Instagram’s Most Fashionable Dog
Let us all take a moment of silence to mourn Tika the Iggy, the Italian greyhound beloved for her stylish outfits and her slightly nervous demeanor. On Wednesday, Tika’s owner Thomas Shapiro announced that the 14-year-old dog had passed away following complications from a surgery to remove tumors from her liver.
“You spent your last moments at home, held by your favourite dads,” Shapiro wrote on Instagram. “We feel numb and lost now that you are gone, but we are so grateful you were surrounded by your family during your last moments.”
Shapiro began posting Tika in increasingly extravagant outfits starting in 2016, and she exploded in popularity during the pandemic. In the last five years, she attended fashion shows, released a book, and wore matching outfits with Whoopi Goldberg on The View. All the while, Shapiro was dressing her up in fabulous looks for her combined 4.7 million TikTok and Instagram followers. Most recently, she dressed up as the Eye of Sauron for her family’s Lord of the Rings Halloween costume.
In the comments of the post announcing her passing, many other Instagram-famous dogs (and their owners) left kind words. “Oh my goodness. We are so beyond sorry. Crying tears with you. Tika was beyond special and will never be forgotten,” wrote @itsdougthepug. “Tika was a one of a kind little lady and her galavanting in her beautiful dresses will forever be engrained in my memory. Thank you for giving her the best life,” wrote @bradythecorgi.
Rest in peace, Tika. I know you’re in doggy heaven stunting on all those other girls.
