Hang On, Is Amy Schumer Coming Around on Zohran?

While lots of New York–based celebrities posted their support of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani throughout the election, a smaller group threw their support behind Andrew Cuomo. Among them were President Donald Trump, influencer Danielle Bernstein, and Amy Schumer, who posted a selfie with her “I Voted” sticker in mid-October with the caption “Rhymes with duomo.” I doubt those first two are too happy with Mamdani’s big win, but Schumer — who’s made political appearances with her cousin, Senator Chuck Schumer, and frequently endorses Democratic candidates — may actually be coming around after Mamdani responded to an act of antisemitism.

On Wednesday, swastikas were found painted onto the exterior of a Jewish day school in Brooklyn. Mamdani — who repeatedly condemned antisemitism during his campaign amid criticism for his pro-Palestine stance — quickly responded,  calling the incident  a “disgusting and heartbreaking act of antisemitism” that “has no place in our beautiful city.”  “As Mayor, I will always stand steadfast with our Jewish neighbors to root the scourge of antisemitism out of our city,” Mamdani wrote in a post on X.

Schumer, who is Jewish and has been a vocal advocate for Israel (although she’s said she “[doesn’t] agree with anything that Netanyahu is doing”), shared Mamdani’s post to her Instagram Story on Thursday. “Say what you want, this was the right message to send after a swastika was painted on an elementary school in Brooklyn the morning after he was elected Mayor,” she wrote. “The Jewish community is looking forward to having your support, Mayor-Elect [Mamdani].” The actress added that “a united NYC is a stronger, better NYC.”

It’s nice to see her keeping an open mind about Mamdani, but I regret to inform you that other signs suggest Schumer is not currently of sound mind and body. An hour after posting that, she shared another Story declaring that All’s Fair, the new Kim Kardashian–Ryan Murphy legal show about an all-female divorce firm, makes her feel “happy and empowered.” In case you have not watched yet, there is nothing “empowering” about All’s Fair, which includes a scene where Sarah Paulson’s character calls Kardashian’s character a “poor, discarded cum rag.” (This is actually one of Paulson’s more gentle insults.) Maybe Schumer meant it empowered her to wear a flamboyant pair of leather gloves to a DSA meeting.
