The Wicked Press Tour Has Hit Another Snag
If you thought last year’s Wicked press tour was emotionally exhausting, buckle up, because the one for Wicked: For Good is turning out to be equally as chaotic. On Monday, it was announced that the newly brunette Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo would not be doing any interviews at the New York City premiere on Monday night. Why? Because Erivo is sick and Grande is standing with her in solidarity, of course.
“Unfortunately, Cynthia is not feeling well and has lost her voice, therefore she and Ariana will not be doing interviews this evening,” Universal said in a statement to People. Thankfully, the two will still pose for photos on the red carpet. How could they be this close to the Gershwin Theater and not show out?
This isn’t the first snafu to hit the Wicked sequel’s press run. Earlier this month, Grande had to miss the premiere in São Paolo, Brazil due to flight issues. She later had to beg fans not to “wish danger” on her and the rest of her team due to their disappointment. “We did everything we could and I promise you no one is more upset than I am, I promise,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. Then, at the Singapore premiere, Grande was accosted by a man on the red carpet. (He was later charged with being a public nuisance and sentenced to nine days in prison.)
Don’t worry — besides a few incidents, everything is mostly fine. At least we’re still getting videos of Grande doing an Italian accent on the red carpet.
