Someone Give Kate Middleton’s Hairdresser a Raise
On December 3, the Prince and Princess of Wales hosted a state banquet at Windsor Castle in honor of German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Büdenbender. At the white-tie affair, Kate Middleton wore a blue Jenny Packham gown and what People says is the largest tiara she’s ever worn — Queen Victoria’s massive Oriental Circlet tiara, which was made in 1853 and features 2,600 diamonds and a collection of rubies.
Naturally, fans on social media wondered how this huge tiara stayed on top of her head all night, but it sounds like we can thank her hairstylist: In photos released of the back of her head, it appears that pieces of Middleton’s hair were wrapped multiple times around the base of the tiara, securing it and all of its jewels in a tight knot.
I always marvel at how the Tiaras stay fixed on the royal ladies heads, especially when it is a bigger piece like the one Catherine wore tonight????????

I love that we get a good look at how Catherine used her hair in a knot to secure the stunning heirloom on her head????????… pic.twitter.com/2FZBPXqFrj
It’s likely that the royal hairstylists do this styling trick every time a royal crown is worn, but since Garrard describes the Oriental Circlet tiara as one of “the most important Victorian-era jewels in the Royal Collection” I’m sure they made Middleton’s knot extra tight. God save the glam squad.
