Cheryl Hines Says She’s Had ‘No Falling-Outs’ About RFK Jr.
According to Cheryl Hines, it actually is possible to have your cake and eat it too. In an interview with NewsNation on Wednesday, the actress said that her personal relationships with her showbiz friends haven’t been too affected by the politics of her husband, Health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Despite the fact that Kennedy has spent most of 2025 waging a war on vaccines and pregnant people taking Tylenol, Hines says she could still have some pleasant lunches with old pals in Los Angeles.
“I do have a few friends that I know are just very upset by even Bobby being in the administration,” Hines said. “It’s very upsetting to them, and I understand that, I respect it. I haven’t had any falling-outs. I haven’t had a moment of somebody storming out the door.”
Zero falling-outs is pretty impressive for a Hollywood actress who has made a full pivot to MAGA wife and recently befriended Marco Rubio. The Curb Your Enthusiasm actress does not deny that she’s lost touch with some friends along the way, but Hines would be more than happy to catch up anytime. Take, for example, her relationship with Curb co-star Larry David, who first introduced her to a pre-MAHA RFK Jr. in 2006.
“I think he’s mad … because Bobby’s in the administration,” Hines admitted. “I actually think I would be fine talking to Larry.” She continued, “It’s not like Larry and I used to play pickleball and we don’t now. I would really see him at work or things like that once in a while, have lunch, but I haven’t really been around in L.A. the same time he has, so I don’t know. I’m sure things would be fine with us. And at the same time, I’m sure he’s not happy about politics.” Totally, it’s just politics, it’s not like children’s lives are on the line.
While Hines’s head seems firmly stuck in the clouds, we do actually have someone else’s perspective on her social life post–RFK Jr.’s ascension in MAGA world. Comedian Tig Notaro, Hines’s former best friend and podcast co-host, detailed the end of their friendship earlier this year on her podcast Handsome.
“She and I had like a four-hour conversation, and she went through different issues and encouraged me to sit down with Bobby,” Notaro said. “I was like, Let me think on this. And then I woke up and I was like, Yeah, no thank you.” After that, Hines stopped reaching out, Notaro recalled. “I didn’t sever the friendship,” she said. “But I did notice that once he was running for president, and once I stepped away from our old podcast, I never heard from her again” save for a few responses to supportive messages.
So, Hines isn’t lying when she says people aren’t storming out the door over her new life. It seems like something much sadder is actually happening, where her friends are trying to be as polite as possible about her husband’s politics (and seemingly hers too) before she herself does the pulling away. That would be quite the hardship. Thankfully, she has a husband who seems really sensitive, sane, and supportive.
