Odessa A’zion Was Not Expecting Wig-Gate

Odessa A’zion’s hair ignited quite a bit of chatter following the Marty Supreme premiere in New York last month — mostly about whether or not she was wearing a wig. Last week, after much commotion over her jet-black curls, the 25-year-old claimed that her New York hairstyle was her real hair that she’d spent five hours styling — “I don’t even have a hair, makeup, or stylist because I’m trying to save my money.” (She did cop to using a wig in a shorter style at the movie’s L.A. premiere.) Since then, the wig-or-no-wig debate has only grown louder, a phenomenon that A’zion finds kind of confusing. On Wednesday, after she was nominated for an Actor Award, the actress told Deadline, “I didn’t know that there was such a stigma behind wigs in particular.”

A’zion reiterated that her now-viral New York premiere bouffant “was my hair that I took literally five hours to do,” adding, “Everyone thought it was a wig, and I’m like, ‘Guys, can I get a little credit here?’ I didn’t just put this on. This took me a hot minute.”

There you have it, folks: usually not a wig, but a wig that one time. This debate is only the seventh-craziest thing to happen during the Marty Supreme press tour, which so far has included a lot of neon-orange tuxedos, Timothée Chalamet on top of the Las Vegas Sphere, and Gwyneth Paltrow repeatedly using the phrase “kind of punk rock.” Can we call it a wrap now?
