Watch live: Trump hosts White House summit with Central Asian leaders

President Trump is hosting the leaders of five Central Asian nations at the White House on Thursday as the president seeks to deepen economic and security ties in the region while developing a rare earth metal supply chain.

The metals are needed to develop high-tech devices such as smartphones and electric vehicles, as Trump pushes for more manufacturing in the U.S. as part of his "America First" agenda.

The leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will participate in the C5+1 summit. Two sources also told The Hill that Trump is expected to welcome Kazakhstan into the Abraham Accords — the agreements centered around normalizing ties with Israel.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. EST.
