Football Insider have claimed that Harry Kane not only endorsed Eric Dier’s signing to Bayern Munich but also helped convince his former Tottenham teammate about a switch to Bavaria.
Reports first emerged last week that Dier had agreed personal terms with Bayern ahead of a shock move to the Bundesliga giants.
This was reported by several sources, including Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who stated that the 29-year-old has been a target for Thomas Tuchel’s men since last summer.
He explained that while Bayern had now reached a verbal agreement with the Tottenham man, the German club had not yet made a final decision on the England international and were continuing to explore other alternatives.
Harry Kane pushed for Eric Dier to Bayern Munich
Football Insider have now said that Bayern will now submit a formal offer to Spurs of around £4.3m as they look to finalise the signing.
The outlet says that Tuchel has spoken to the player and detailed how he would fit into his team, stressing that his versatility would make him an option for both the centre-back and defensive midfield roles.
The report adds that Kane ‘pushed strongly’ for Dier’s signing, highly recommending the centre-back to Tuchel and the Bayern chiefs.
The pair are said to be good friends and it is said that the England captain has spoken extensively to the former Sporting Lisbon star about life in Bavaria.
Spurs Web Opinion
While this move does come as a surprise, I take issue with the Spurs fans who are laughing at this idea and suggesting that Bayern are being robbed.
The reality is that Dier has been a key part of Tottenham’s best era in the last three or four decades and deserves respect for the service he has given to the club.
He was valued highly by Pochettino, Mourinho, Conte and Nuno, and fans forget just how good he was in the middle of the back three during the first 12 months of Conte’s time at Spurs.
The opinions of the aforementioned managers as well as Thomas Tuchel are a much better indication of Dier’s value as a footballer than the opinion of the average Joe on Twitter.
