According to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax youngster Stanis Idumbo Muzambo is on the verge of signing for Sevilla, despite reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
While Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou may be busy looking at improving the squad with established talent, the North London club are also taking steps to build for the future, it seems.
The signings of Ashley Phillips and Alejo Veliz in the summer prove as much, and reports first emerged linking Spurs to 18-year-old Stanis Idumbo Muzambo a fortnight ago (DH).
The Ajax midfielder’s contract will expire in the summer, and Spurs were thought to be among six clubs looking at snapping up the talented Belgian star, though those other clubs were not revealed at the time (Fabrizio Romano).
At the end of December, Romano had another update, this time claiming Spurs were submitting a proposal for the attacking midfielder, who had made the decision to leave Ajax. However, Spanish side Sevilla were also thought to be making an offer to Muzambo.
Stanis Idumbo Muzambo set to join Sevilla
Well, it seems Sevilla have won that particular battle, as Romano’s latest update claims the La Liga outfit are close to an agreement for the 18-year-old, with just a few details left to be thrashed out before the move is made official.
He tweeted: “Sevilla are close to reaching the agreement to sign 2005-born Belgian midfielder Stanis Idumbo Muzambo from Ajax. Agreement being closed on permanent deal, still waiting on some details then player will travel to Spain as soon as agreed. Exclusive story, confirmed.”

Spurs Web Opinion
This would have been a decent signing for the future, but picking up young talent like this is always a risk, especially at Spurs where we have a history of loaning these players out and then never doing anything with them. Muzambo will likely get better opportunities to play first-team football at Sevilla, so who can blame him for opting for that move?
