Paul Robinson has insisted that Everton were fully deserving of a point against Tottenham, opining that his former side struggled to cope with the Toffees’ physicality.
Richarlison delivered two sublime moments in front of goal for the Lilywhites on his return to Goodison Park, thus ensuring that they took a lead into the interval despite being second-best for much of the second period.
It seemed like Ange Postecoglou’s words at half-time had forced the Tottenham players to wake up from their slumber as the away side played with much more intensity in the second half and had better control of the game.
However, they were unable to add to their lead as Jordan Pickford made several important saves to keep his side in it.
Sean Dyche’s men kept plugging away and they got their just reward in the end, with a set-piece once again proving Tottenham’s undoing in stoppage time, with Jarrad Branthwaite converting from close range after the free-kick came off Cristian Romero.
Tottenham need to be more physical – says Robinson
Robinson believes that the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game, opining that Dyche’s substitutions worked better than Postecoglou’s.
The former Tottenham goalkeeper told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It is nothing more than they deserved. In all honesty, they were the better team today. They stuck to their task and they look like they know what they are doing under Sean Dyche.
“Tottenham didn’t like the physicality that Everton brought into the game. Everton’s substitutions worked and you could argue that Spurs’ didn’t. Everton kept knocking at the door and they got their rewards.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Spurs fans will rightfully pick apart our performance over the coming days, one has to give a lot of credit to Everton, who were set up perfectly to stop Tottenham from playing. Dyche and his coaching staff had clearly done their homework and spotted a weakness in the way we defend corner-kicks and they took full advantage.
