Here’s how we rated the Tottenham Hotspur players following the opening 45 minutes of action in this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Ange Postecoglou’s side head into the break with the score at 0-0 in a fairly uninspiring first half that Spurs just about had the better of.
Guglielmo Vicario: Put his body on the line to prevent Daniel Munoz and made a good stop to keep out Jordan Ayew—Palace were flagged offside in both instances but Vicario still made great saves nonetheless. 7.
Emerson Royal: Has advanced forward and tried to put a ball in the box a couple of times, to no avail. Has had little to do defensively. 6.
Cristian Romero: A typically solid yet unremarkable display so far. Hasn’t been troubled much at the back. 6.
Micky van de Ven: Similar to Romero, van de Ven has been twiddling his thumbs defensively for most of the game. 6.
Destiny Udogie: has been bursting forward as always and does look like he could make something happen. Just needs to find the right pass to change the game. 7.
Yves Bissouma: The game has largely been played in the middle of the park, and Bissouma has managed to dictate the tempo a little bit with slick passing and ball control. 7.
Rodrigo Bentancur: Still looks a little off the pace but seems to be getting back to his best. Some neat movement and quick passing has opened up channels of space for Bentancur and his teammates. 6.
James Maddison: Faded out of the game a bit as the half went on, but has been trying to make things happen with tidy one-twos and dynamic dribbling. If Spurs are getting a goal, Maddison will be involved. 6.
Dejan Kulusevski: A quiet performance from the Swede. Has had little chance to run at defenders and break into the box, largely because Palace have stayed well-organised down that side. 5.
Timo Werner: Missed a golden chance when trying to take it round the Palace keeper. Really needs to get that goal and some confidence soon. 5.
Heung-min Son: A frustrating half for the Spurs skipper. So often this season he is being kept out of the game by organised defences, but hopefully he can produce some magic later on. 5.
