Jermaine Jenas reveals that he almost went to Arsenal back in 2005 before Tottenham Hotspur swooped for him.
Jenas arrived at White Hart Lane with a big reputation, having been widely thought of as one of the best young players in the Premier League during his time at Newcastle.
The midfielder had a successful spell at Spurs, going on to make more than 200 appearances for the club but he never quite managed to fulfil the potential he showed as a youngster and was a figure who often frustrated the Tottenham faithful.
However, Jenas always stepped up for the Lilywhites whenever the North London derby came around, often saving his best for those clashes and scoring some lovely goals against the Gunners during his time in N17.

The 41-year-old has now revealed that he could have actually ended up donning an Arsenal shirt if things had worked out a little differently.
The former Tottenham man said on That Peter Crouch’s podcast (via TBR Football): “Arsene Wenger, he’s a lovely guy. Because I nearly went to Arsenal when I left Newcastle. I thought I was going to Arsenal at that time.
“He was quite vocal. Vieira was about to leave to go to Juve and he always used to say he was an admirer of mine. When I won Young Player of the Year, Martin Keown said everyone in our dressing room voted for you so I thought there was half a chance of going to Arsenal here and at that time Wenger was basically Pep Guardiola.
“I said why didn’t you buy me and he said I should have bought you when you left Forest. I thought you had Cesc Fabregas coming through so I think you were alright! But it was a timing issue with the amount of money that they could spend at the time and it just didn’t happen.”

Wenger probably will not have too many regrets about missing out on Jenas, given the amount of talented midfielders Arsenal had at the time.
However, the Frenchman did create the right environment for young players to mature into top footballers and Jenas might have hit much greater heights had he moved to the Emirates.
