Sergio Reguilon has revealed that he was completely surprised when Tottenham decided to loan him out to Manchester United in the summer as Ange Postecoglou had informed him just one week before that he was part of his plans.
Reguilon did get a lot of minutes under his belt during pre-season and it seemed like the left-back’s Tottenham career could be handed a lifeline by Postecoglou.
However, the Lilywhites decided to send him out on loan instead, with Ben Davies remaining at the club as cover for Destiny Udogie.
The 27-year-old did reasonably well when opportunities came his way during his six-month loan spell at Old Trafford and has also given a decent account of himself at Brentford since making a temporary move to the Gtech Community Stadium in January.

Sergio Reguilon expected to stay and compete at Spurs
However, the former Real Madrid revealed that he is still confused about why Tottenham decided to let him go in the summer.
Speaking about his exit from Spurs, Reguilon told The Times: “One day is ‘yes’, next day is ‘no’. I didn’t understand and still don’t understand the situation.
“During pre-season, I was very happy and he [Postecoglou] was happy with me, also the staff. I was playing like a normal player, all the games.
“The week before, I went to see him. ‘You want me at the club?’ ‘Yes, I have to do a list and you are in my squad’. It was strange. The next day I was out of the training and I didn’t know what happened.”
Reguilon remarked that the club decided to offload him for non-footballing reasons but insisted that it all worked out well for him in the end as he enjoyed his time at Man Utd.
He added: “I know I can play in Spurs, but in many aspects in football, the player doesn’t have control. And I don’t want to stay to sit in the stadium watching.
“I am 27, I have too much football to live. I don’t understand why one day is ‘yes’ and next day is ‘no’ but . . . I don’t think it’s performance reason, I think it’s another reason, this is football, this is business.
“When one window closes, another door opens. Karma was good for me. I went to United. The people there are unbelievable. I don’t know why but I still receive a lot of messages. I love them because, from the first moment, they gave me so much love. Maybe the way I play, always giving everything, and they love that.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While supporters often expect loyalty from players, they forget just how cut-throat football can be at the highest level, with clubs and fans certainly not showing any loyalty to the players if the standard of their performances drops.
