Guglielmo Vicario has admitted that he is keen to get a taste of Champions League football next summer but insisted that he and his teammates need to take things one game at a time.
Spurs head to Villa Park on Sunday for what is set to be a proverbial six-pointer in the race for fourth, with the Villans sitting five points ahead of the Lilywhites, who have a game in hand.
Vicario will have to keep out one of the form strikers in the Premier League, Ollie Watkins, and ahead of the game, the Spurs star also spoke about his admiration for his opposite number, Emi Martinez.
When asked who his favourite goalkeepers in the Premier League are, he told ESPN: “In the Premier League there are a lot of top goalkeepers, I like to watch every goalkeeper in the way he behaves, the way he saves, his style of goalkeeping.
“[Aston Villa’s] Emi Martínez and [Liverpool’s] Alisson are for me the two top keepers in the league so if I have to say someone, I say these two guys because they are doing unbelievable, they play with risk, take risks playing from the back, they are very brave to go out and to clear situations so of course I look to other keepers.”

Vicario is keen to play in the Champions League
Unlike many of his Tottenham teammates, Vicario has never tasted Champions League football before and the the 27-year-old admits he is extremely keen to test himself in Europe’s premier club competition.
When asked how important it is for Spurs to get back into the competition, he responded: “It is important for everyone, trying to go in the Champions League. Of course, it is one of our goals to try to achieve. We know it is hard because we have to face sides every week in the Premier League and it is tough against everyone.
“I don’t think we have to overthink about the end, just focusing on trying to do our best game by game. Our aim at the moment is to try to win the next game, if you work to win the next game you can maybe think at the end of the season about where you are.
“Of course, it is one of the best competitions in the world. I watch when I stay home, it is one of the best football shows in the world.”
However, no matter what happens on Sunday and for the rest of the season, Vicario is confident that the future is bright for Tottenham.
He added: “We are a very young group, it is the first season we are playing all together with the new manager so we just have to remain calm and try to focus and work hard every day because I think we can be something special in the next seasons.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Qualifying for the Champions League is crucial for Tottenham if we want to attract top players to the squad next summer and narrow the gap with the likes of Man City and Liverpool.
Sunday’s game could thus potentially have a huge bearing on Postecoglou’s project, with the clash arguably being the biggest of the Australian’s tenure so far.
