David Ornstein would not be surprised if Tottenham Hotspur reignited their interest in Conor Gallagher when the transfer window reopens in June.
Over the last couple of weeks, it has been widely reported that Spurs retain a concrete interest in Gallagher as they are aware that Chelsea need to offload some players in the summer to ensure they do not fall foul of the Premier League’s financial regulations (Football Insider).
The 23-year-old will enter the final year of his contract in Stamford Bride this June and it was asserted by Ben Jacobs last month that the Lilywhites would be willing to offer around £45m to £50m for the England international in the summer (GiveMeSport).
However, Tottenham are not the only club monitoring Gallagher’s situation, with The Daily Mail reporting last week that West Ham are also keeping tabs on the player and that the Blues would prefer selling their academy graduate to the Hammers over Spurs.

Tottenham could look at Conor Gallagher again
Ornstein has now revealed that there has been no progress in the midfielder’s contract talks with Chelsea, suggesting that Ange Postecoglou’s men could thus try again for the player.
When asked who Tottenham’s top summer targets would be, the journalist said on The Athletic’s Ask Ornstien Q&A: “Truth is I don’t know at this stage, but even in January we saw Tottenham sign players who were not previously reported as their top targets.
“Many people were talking about Todibo joining and Spurs ended up prioritising Dragusin. Werner came pretty much out of nowhere. Bergvall was apparently nailed on to join Barcelona, only for Tottenham to nip in, so let’s wait and see.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Spurs go in for Conor Gallagher again, given they’ve tried before and there has been no meaningful progress on a new contract (existing deal expires in June 2025), but that’s more assumption than information.”
Spurs Web Opinion
If Gallagher does not sign a new contract before the summer, one would certainly expect Tottenham to test the waters with an offer or two for the player. However, now that Spurs have secured Lucas Bergvall, perhaps they would be reluctant to pay over the top for the Chelsea man.
