Postecoglou comments on ‘very talented’ Mikey Moore – Tottenham’s 16-year-old starlet
It’s the North London derby this weekend, but in his press conference today, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou took time to discuss Mikey Moore’s development at the club after a week of training with the first team.
Mikey Moore has been making the most of Tottenham‘s fixture break over the last fortnight, by getting some important experience with the first team and taking part in training sessions with the senior squad over the last week.
The 16-year-old has already excelled at youth level this term, registering 16 goals and nine assists in just 14 games (Transfermarkt).
There have been excited murmurs among the Spurs fanbase all week suggesting that Moore could be in line for a place on the bench for Tottenham’s upcoming Premier League clash with Arsenal.
Mikey Moore has impressed Postecoglou this week
Speaking to the press today, Postecoglou spoke on the topic of Moore’s involvement with the senior side throughout this week, and how the youngster has adapted to being involved at a higher level, and the Spurs boss had nothing but praise to offer.
He said (via Football.London): “We’ve done that all year. We’ve had guys at different times from our academy and the Under-21s training with us for extended periods rather than just bringing them up for a day or two. Mikey has been really good.
“Look he’s a very talented boy and for him, he’s had a fairly disrupted season, he’s had a couple of injuries. When he’s performed, he’s performed really well. The reports I’ve had on him have always been outstanding. It’s been good to have him.
“Obviously we’ve had a couple of weeks without a game and it’s been good to get him involved in the first team. Again, to be fair to him he has adapted really well, he hasn’t looked out of place and it’s great for him. Hopefully, it gives encouragement to him and some of the other guys who are coming through.”
Spurs Web Opinion
This all sounds very promising, and I’m sure Mikey Moore will have an incredible future at Tottenham in years to come. If he was to be named on the bench this weekend, I’d love that, but I would also be very surprised if that were to happen. It’s perfectly fine for us to be patient with the young lad’s development.
