Spurs starlets Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall reveal their favourite positions
Tottenham Hotspur’s new recruits, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have revealed their favourite positions to the Spurs faithful in a recent Reddit Q&A.
Archie Gray – The boy from Leeds
Young Archie Gray tore up the Championship last season, earning the trust of his manager, Daniel Farke, and his teammates’ plaudits and adulation at the EFL awards ceremony. (Leeds)
Riding on that high, Gray seemed destined for a Premier League move as Leeds failed to secure promotion to the top flight.
It appeared that Brentford was his destination, even having a medical at the London club, but a disagreement over the payment structure for the Durham-born midfielder allowed Spurs to step in and get their man. (Talksport)
Having travelled up to Scotland with the Spurs squad, many were speculating whether Gray would make his first appearance in a pre-season friendly against Hearts, and he did – but in a strange position.
The Spurs faithful knew young Gray was versatile; they perhaps weren’t expecting the starlet to start at centre back, and he was commanding with bundles of composure, brimming with confidence and smiling ear to ear. (Leeds Live)
He recently revealed in a Reddit Q&A that he prefers to play “number 8 like a box to box” and similarly enough, so does the next young man we’ll talk about, Lucas Bergvall. (Reddit)
A Swedish star in the making
Hailing from a prolific academy, IF Brommapojkarna is proud to have their stamp on Lucas Bergvall, just as they had with another Spurs favourite in Dejan Kulusevski and prolific striker and potential Spurs option Viktor Gyoreres. (Football.London)
After a super impressive season with Djurgarden, Lucas had a wealth of choices, including heavy interest from Barcelona, so choosing his next step would be important for his development, and he felt that under Ange-ball, his talents could flourish. (BBC)
Also making the trip up to Scotland after his new shirt number 15 was revealed, Bergvall came off the bench to provide an excellent assist to Spurs starboy Mikey Moore, earning heavy praise from his new compatriot. (HITC)
In a joint Reddit Q&A with Archie Gray, he funnily enough also revealed that his preferred position was a “number 8 like a box to box”, causing Spurs fans to joke that they would be “treading on each other’s toes”. (Reddit)

The pair of them showed exactly why we made such a fuss about bringing them in the first place. Fearless creativity and bravery on the ball are exactly what Ange-ball cries out for, and age is just a number for these two wonder kids.
Archie’s already shown immense versatility in his career to play in midfield, right back and now the centre of defence, I’m sure that with Bergvall’s athletic profile and sheer magic on the ball, he can also prove to be a versatile weapon for Postecoglou to unleash in the Europa League.
Both lads have bright futures at Spurs, and it certainly helps that they can play a multitude of positions and are supremely confident on the ball. This is the future that Postecoglou is building for us.
