Tottenham are on the lookout for a new striker
Spurs’ Swedish contingent was bolstered with the arrival of Lucas Bergvall, who will almost assuredly take mentorship from fellow countryman Dejan Kulusevski, who adapted quickly to life in the capital, as well as the addition of Johan Lange as Technical Director. (Daily Mail) (BBC)
Richarlison’s performances last season split the fanbase. Many believe he’s still not performing to his highest potential, and his injury record has been poor too.
The Brazillian number 9 had an improved season numbers-wise, bagging 11 goals in the Premier League, but of course, there are still massive boots to fill from Harry Kane’s departure.
This has led to calls for Spurs to sign a new striker, and we do know that Spurs want to add firepower to that department with players like Ivan Toney and the man we’re going to talk about here, Viktor Gyökeres, who had a barnstorming season for Sporting Lisbon.
A Swedish appeal at Spurs
A man who’s used to English soil could be making the switch to North London this summer. It was initially believed that Viktor Gyökeres wouldn’t leave for anything less than his astronomical release clause.
However, due to a seeming lack of solid interest, Sporting could potentially be open to a cut-price deal to generate interest (GiveMeSport).
The report claims that Gyokeres is firmly on Tottenham’s radar and they could make a move for him if his price tag is indeed slashed, while Ivan Toney and Jonathan David remain other options.
Gyökeres raised his profile by adding European experience to his repertoire. It was initially perceived that many clubs would be tracking him; however, Spurs could add to their growing Swedish family if Johan Lange can work his magic. He also hails from the same academy that produced Bergvall and Kulusevski, so he could settle in quite nicely.
There could still be some clubs that come out of the shadows at the last minute of the latest reports of Sporting considering a lower price are to be believed.
He’s been on the radar for almost all significant clubs needing a striker, including Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, so Spurs must move swiftly to secure the Swede’s services. (HITC)
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite his ferocious appetite for goals, the initial price tag was far too high and certainly off-putting to many clubs, given his age.
However, Spurs would get from this signing a tall, athletically strong striker entering the peak of his powers, and that’s something I wouldn’t want us to miss out on, especially at a cut-price deal.
