Ange Postecoglou reacts to Mikey Moore’s Spurs debut – ‘I couldn’t be happier’
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to the press about the changes he made to this lineup this evening for the Europa League clash with Ferencvaros, and has given his assessment of how young Mikey Moore performed.
Mikey Moore’s first start is a success
Postecoglou took the rather bold decision to rest experienced players and hand first senior starts to both Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear tonight.
Despite a decent showing from the latter, it was teenage sensation Moore who really stood out for Spurs. The young winger played a part in both goals for the away side, and can come away from the game with his head held high.
Discussing Moore’s performance after the game (via Football.London), Postecoglou was full of praise for his prodigious talent.
He said: “His ability to just deal with pressure and keep the ball in really tight areas and make really good clean decisions for such a young boy. It’s not easy out there when defenders fly in and he took one within the first 30 seconds, but he drives on.
“He’s got so much growth and he wants to learn. I couldn’t be happier with him and I’m very pleased that he’s part of our football club.”
Moore showed no fear
Spurs fans are already well aware of just how special Moore is, and how much potential he has, but tonight he went out and showed the world what he is about.
At just 17-years-old, Moore has gone away to the Hungarian league champions, been in the middle of a highly physical and tense game, and came out the other side with universal praise for his performance.
Now, it will be interesting to see whether Postecoglou trusts the youngster to step in at the weekend against Brighton if Heung-min Son is still struggling for fitness, or whether he will stick with Timo Werner.
Man of the match display from Moore
I have to say, I think Moore was the man of the match against Ferencvaros for me. He took the game to them, and constantly tried to make things happen. His determination and drive forced the opportunities for both of our goals. Now, he has to get more minutes, as he’s proved he is more than capable.
