Who is Maeson King?

Maeson King was born in Basildon and grew up in Thurrock, to the east of Tottenham. He joined the Spurs academy at the age of 10, before going full-time in 2022 and this year he signed his first professional contract with the club.

King has occupied a number of positions, playing as either a left winger or midfielder as a child. Now he plays as a left-back, but like another King who represented Spurs, he is able to play in the centre of defence.

Already a serial winner, King has participated in three Spurs youth squads to have lifted silverware. He has an under-17 and under-18 Premier League Cup to his name and he made six appearances for Tottenham’s Premier League 2 winning team last season.

Maeson King named in Tottenham’s first-team squad

Although King has not yet played for Tottenham’s senior side, Sunday will have been a memorable night for him, as he appeared in their Premier League matchday squad for the first time.

This comes as he has risen up the ranks at Spurs, having already made more Premier League starts this season than he did during the under-21 team’s previous campaign. And he picked up an assist in his most recent appearance, during a 6-1 win over Middlesbrough.

So far this season King has appeared for them eight times, averaging 74 minutes per game and he has started three matches in the EFL Trophy, playing alongside some familiar names such as Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear.

One player Maeson can take inspiration from

Making the leap from academy football to Tottenham’s first team is no easy task, but being able to play in multiple positions can be very helpful and one current Spurs player is a fine example of this.

Despite the fact his Spurs career looked to be over, Ben Davies made the positional switch from left-back to the centre of defence and he has been required by Tottenham this season as a result, even after 10 years at the club. So the fact King is able to cover more than one area of the pitch is a real positive that could help him in the future.
