Tottenham are the most consistently inconsistent side in PL

The Premier League itself has been extremely unpredictable this season, with just six points separating fourth-placed Nottingham Forest and Man Utd in 13th place, with all sides showing that they are capable of beating each other.

Spurs have been the most inconsistent team of the lot. On several occasions, they have delivered irresistible performances like they did against the two Manchester clubs, but on other occasions, they have looked completely devoid of ideas and too easy to play against.

Many Tottenham supporters are tearing their hair out due to the side’s inconsistency, and Postecoglou‘s position continues to be questioned as a result.

Stephen Carr calls on Ange Postecoglou to walk the talk

Carr admitted that his former side will not be able to qualify for the Champions League if they do not start showing some consistency, and suggested that they would be better off concentrating on the cups.

The former Tottenham right-back told GiveMeSport: “Every game is so hard these days. It’s just a bit strange with Tottenham. They can’t seem to get on a run. They take a forward step and then a backward step.

“Qualifying for the Champions League must still be the aim, but with Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa and even Brighton, who are causing sides problems, I just don’t see Tottenham gaining a spot due to their inconsistency.

“If they get into a European spot and win a cup it will be quite a successful season, but it’s really tough for Tottenham right now. They won’t get into the Champions League on this form.”

Postecoglou boldly declared at the start of the campaign that he always wins trophies in his second season at clubs, and while Carr likes the Australian’s confidence, he called on him to back it up this season.

The former Tottenham captain said about Postecoglou‘s comments: “Those comments put pressure on himself and the players. I think they were very intentional to set a high bar. Postecoglou is confident.

“He seems to thrive off the pressure. He can handle it, and his bold prediction felt very deliberate. Now he has to back up what he said. The fans will be expecting something.”

Carr explains why there is reason for optimism

However, Carr pointed to the amount of top young talent in the Tottenham first-team as the main reason why the supporters should be optimistic about what lies ahead over the next few years.

The pundit added: “It’s hard right now because Tottenham have had a few false dawns, but Tottenham have some unbelievable young players they can call on. If you look at what they are building, it’s actually all quite positive in the long run. There are several prospects I think have big futures.

“Mikey Moore is so exciting. And Archie Gray has quality and with time will show what he is capable of. And Spurs still have pulling power in the market if Daniel Levy wants to spend some money. So Tottenham’s foundations are there, and despite their inconsistency, it’s good to see some young players getting chances.”
