Heung-min Son has had a season to forget

While Son has had several challenging times over his nearly decade-long spell at Tottenham, the 32-year-old will admit that the one he is going through at the moment is as difficult as any he has experienced.

The Tottenham captain is coming towards the end of his contract and has looked a shadow of the player he has been over the course of his Spurs career, and his struggles are compounded by the fact that the team itself is also underperforming massively.

The forward had a chance to get on the scoresheet and start to build some confidence when Spurs were handed a penalty against Wolves on Sunday, but he saw his spot-kick being saved before eventually being taken off in the 64th minute after another ineffectual performance.

Son apologises to his teammates

Son has now spoken to the Korean media about his failure to convert from the spot, apologising to his teammates for failing to help the side win the game.

The forward also admitted that he perhaps needs to set aside more time to practise his penalties to ensure he does not repeat the mistake.

When asked about the spot-kick, the Spurs star told Sports Chosun: “Of course, I’m so sorry to my team members. I’ve been putting in a lot of penalties lately. Since I can’t do it this time, I think I need to make a change to practice a little more. First of all, I think it’s the most upsetting that I can’t win today’s game.”

Son admits Spurs need injured players back

The Tottenham skipper was not too interested in talking about potential new signings, instead admitting that the club desperately need their key players back fit.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man seemed to hint that the club needed to plan beforehand to avoid an injury pileup, given the nature of the schedule these days.

When asked about Destiny Udogie‘s injury and whether it shows that Spurs need new additions in January, Son responded: “There’s nothing I can do. Actually, the most important thing is for the team members to recover well. There are some areas where injuries need to be managed well.

“As I said before the season, there are so many games that there are cases where injuries are inevitable. I think we have to pay close attention to these things. I think once again that clubs should pay more attention to this.”
