Is Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs job under threat?
With Tottenham now in the bottom half of the table almost halfway into the season, Postecoglou is a man under immense pressure.
Reports indicate that despite the side’s poor run of form of late, Spurs are not looking for a new head coach and continue to back the Australian, although there is an expectation that results would have to be turned around soon.
However, the latest revelation from Turkey suggests that Tottenham have already identified the man they expect to replace Postecoglou.
Besiktas official makes big Tottenham managerial claim
Serdal Adali, who is in the running to be the next president of Besiktas, has now made a shocking claim about Postecoglou’s future.
Speaking to the Turkish media, he revealed that he contacted former Borussia Dortmund head coach, Edin Terzic, about joining the Turkish club, but the German informed him that he expects to join Tottenham.
Adali told Tivibu Spor: “Edin Terzic was one of our foreign alternatives. In the meeting, he said he was expecting an agreement with Tottenham. That book is closed.”
Who is Edin Terzic?
Terzic spent most of his playing career in the lower leagues in Germany. After hanging up his boots, the 42-year-old worked as a scout and a youth coach at Dortmund, reporting to Jurgen Klopp.
He then served as an assistant to Slaven Bilic at Besiktas from 2013 to 2015 before becoming the assistant first-team coach to Lucien Favre at Dortmund in 2018. The German took over as the head coach of the club on an interim basis following Favre’s sacking in the latter stages of the 2020-21 season.
Following that campaign, Terzic briefly served as Dortmund’s technical director in the 2021-22 season, before taking over as the club’s head coach after Marco Rose departed at the end of that season.
In the 2022-23 season, he came within an inch of leading Dortmund to the Bundesliga title, with the club ultimately losing the title to Bayern Munich on goal difference.
Last season, Terzic guided the club to a fifth-place finish in the league and to the final of the Champions League, where they were beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid. The 42-year-old left the club by his own request after the final and has been unemployed since.
