Spurs eyeing opportunity to sign exciting winger for free

Dani Olmo faces an extremely uncomfortable situation just six months on from sealing his dream €60m (£49.5m) switch to Barcelona from RB Leipzig.

The Catalan club’s financial owes have meant that they have not been able to register him in their squad yet after the turn of the year, with reports suggesting that he could leave on a free transfer this month if they are unable to solve the situation.

The 26-year-old’s situation has reportedly attracted the interest of a number of clubs, including Tottenham, who have allegedly made ‘enquiries’ about his situation.

Dani Olmo breaks his silence

90 min have now explained the situation with more clarity, revealing that Barca were not able to raise the required funds in time to register the winger.

La Liga’s strict financial regulations forced the La Liga giants to find a new source of income before they could register Olmo for the second half of the season.

Club president Joan Laporta is thought to have secured the necessary funds by selling the rights to Camp Nou’s VIP boxes for the next 20 years, but he failed to do it before La Liga’s stipulated December 31 deadline.

This means that they could be forced to pay Olmo the full value of his contract and allow the Spain international to leave on a free transfer. However, the outlet reveals that the summer signing is not fazed by the situation and believes that it will be sorted out.

It is claimed that while signing autographs for the fans in Barca’s recent open training session, Olmo said when asked about his situation: “Everything’s fine”.

Olmo’s agent later added in an interview with Fabrizio Romano: “I can confirm our position has not changed. We are not negotiating with any club. Dani is a Barca player and he wants to be a Barca player, he did big efforts in his life to be at Barcelona. It was his desire for a long time.”

Barca are confident resolution can be reached

According to a report in The Athletic, the Barca hierarchy remain confident that they can sort out their differences with La Liga and register Olmo in their squad.

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo have said that the club have set January 3 as the new deadline for registering the former Leipzig man as this is the date when all the money from the VIP seating deal is expected to come through.

If this is true, Olmo, Barca and the winger’s suitors will find out very shortly if the player is indeed on the market as a free agent.
