Antonin Kinsky chooses special number for his Tottenham shirt

With many of the usual goalkeeper numbers taken, Tottenham have revealed which number Antonin Kinsky will wear on his back – and he already has a history with it.

Several numbers are absent, but unlikely for a goalkeeper

Tottenham are not the team for anyone who likes their starting XI to wear the numbers 1 to 11.

Spurs currently have no number 2, 4, 12, 18 or 25 if you consider those numbers more viable for a 25-man squad. 5 and 11 are occupied by Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Bryan Gil who are both out on loan with permanent moves either confirmed or likely.

Furthermore, the number 3 belongs to Sergio Reguilon who is ostensibly the 3rd/4th choice left-back.

Of these, only the number 12 has previously belonged to a goalkeeper, having been worn by Joe Hart and Radek Cerny. However, Tottenham have confirmed their new signing has taken a different available number for their shirt.

Antonin Kinsky will wear the number 31

As part of the club announcing his arrival on social media, Tottenham confirmed that Antonin Kinsky will be wearing the number 31 for the remainder of this season.

Kinsky wore number 31 for Slavia Prague so it makes sense for him to keep his favoured number as it was available at Tottenham.

It may have additionally been the case that with Destiny Udogie occupying the number 13 (which is frequently worn by 2nd choice goalkeepers), Kinsky opted for the inverse instead.

The number 31 is (with all due respect) not the most iconic of shirt numbers. 31 is held by Ederson at Manchester City and was worn by Bastien Schweinsteiger at Bayern Munich, but does not have as much status at Tottenham.

The 31 shirt has been worn by: Luke McGee, Andros Townsend, Dean Marney, Alton Thelwell, Ruel Fox, Simon Brown and Robbie Simpson.
