Defeats keep piling up for Tottenham

One does have sympathy for the injury situation that Ange Postecoglou has had to deal with at Spurs over the last few months as the Australian’s hands have effectively been tied.

However, even that does not justify just how poor the results have been of late, with the Lilywhites currently sitting in 12th place in the Premier League table, having lost half of their first 20 league games.

Daniel Levy has typically been ruthless in sacking managers if the club look in danger of missing out on Champions League football, but he seems to be continuing to show faith in Postecoglou.

David Ornstein reveals Tottenham’s stance on Ange Postecoglou

Ornstein has revealed through his sources at Spurs that the Australian coach’s position is still not under any threat at the moment.

The journalist insisted that despite the poor run that the side is in, the 59-year-old is being backed to turn things around.

Ornstein told NBC Sports coverage (January 5): “Ange Postecoglou is 100 per cent safe in his job I am told. There is no uncertainty over his future despite the pressure he appears to be feeling in some of his public comments. They are backing him to lead this project forward.”

Levy will have identified potential replacements

While the Tottenham hierarchy will want to give Postecoglou a chance to show what he can do with a fully fit squad, they would already be making contingency plans.

Levy, Lange and co would not be doing their jobs if they had not started identifying a couple of options who can take over from the Australian should things continue to go south.

For all the talk of Postecoglou retaining their support, things could change quite dramatically if Spurs suffer a heavy defeat in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal against Liverpool.
