Ange Postecoglou insists he does not need job security at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has brushed off suggestions that he has to overcome Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semifinal in order to secure his own future at Tottenham.

One could make the case that Tottenham’s upcoming Carabao Cup semifinal against Liverpool is the biggest game of the club’s season so far, with the game being pivotal to the project that is underway at Hotspur Way.

Various reports over the last few weeks have suggested that the results of the two semifinal clashes will go a long way towards determining if Postecoglou remains in the job over the long term.

One would think that Spurs have to beat the Reds at home in the first leg to have any chance of progressing to the showpiece Wembley final.

However, the Tottenham head coach insisted that he does not worry about how the upcoming semifinal clashes against the Premier League leaders will affect his own future.

He acknowledged that it is his responsibility to turn results around and added that he feels fully supported by everyone at Hotspur Way.

When it was put to Postecoglou that he needed to beat Liverpool for the sake of his own job security, the 59-year-old responded (via The Guardian): “I don’t need greater [job] security. All I see is a group of players who are giving absolutely everything; every person at this football club is pushing hard every day.

“The results are on me. It’s my responsibility to change that. And if it doesn’t change, then of course, I’m the one who should take whatever ramifications there are to it.

“But I don’t need any more security than seeing what I see every day – that the club and everyone at the club is totally supportive of what we’re ­trying to do.”

Semifinal results will have a huge impact on Tottenham’s season

Whether or not the results of the semifinal directly influence the Spurs hierarchy‘s decision on Postecoglou’s future, it will undoubtedly have a big impact on Tottenham’s season.

If Spurs keep their hopes of reaching a cup final alive with a win this evening, that could serve as a shot in the arm in the club’s season and galvanise the team.

However, should they suffer a loss this evening, it will be a huge blow to the squad’s morale as the players will be staring at the prospect of potentially having very little to play for in the second half of the campaign.
