Tottenham often start strong in the FA Cup

All campaigns benefit from a positive start and the FA Cup is no different. Tottenham Hotspur have a positive record in this regard, in that it has been over ten years since they last failed to progress beyond the third round.

This was due to an early draw against Arsenal in 2014 which Spurs lost 2-0. While there have been some replays since, Tottenham have consistently moved on to the fourth round.

Tottenham results:
Tottenham 1-0 Burnley FC
Tottenham 1-0 Portsmouth
Tottenham 3-1 Morecambe FC
Marine FC 0-5 Tottenham
Tottenham 2-1 Middlesbrough (replay)
Middlesbrough 1-1 Tottenham
Tranmere Rovers 0-7 Tottenham
Tottenham 3-0 AFC Wimbledon
Tottenham 2-0 Aston Villa
Leicester 0-2 Tottenham (replay)
Tottenham 2-2 Leicester
Tottenham 4-2 Burnley (replay)
Burnley 1-1 Tottenham

Tottenham’s history vs non-league opposition

Spurs trip to Tamworth will be the 12th time Tottenham have faced up against a non-league opposition in the FA Cup.

This dates all the way back to 1910 when Spurs faced Plymouth who were in the Southern League at the time. The most recent incidence of facing a non-league opponent was in 2021 as Jose Mourinho led Tottenham against Marine FC.

Ben Davies captained Spurs and Alfie Devine made his senior debut, in addition to scoring and becoming both Tottenham’s youngest debutant and goal-scorer.

Can James Maddison lead Tottenham to a repeat of cup glory?

Of the players in Tottenham’s squad, only James Maddison has lifted the FA Cup. He won the competition with Leicester in 2021, beating Chelsea in the final.

Maddison could be vital in leading Tottenham on an FA Cup run in an attempt to repeat his cup glory, and he could even start away to Tamworth after being suspended for the Liverpool clash in mid-week.

If Ange Postecoglou’s promise of a trophy-filled second season comes true, Spurs could enter the 2025/26 campaign with a whole lot more FA Cup-winners in their squad. Fingers crossed, Tottenham fans!
