Lucas Bergvall opens up on that dream Tottenham goal vs Liverpool
Lucas Bergvall reveals what he felt when he saw his shot hit the back of the net for his first goal in a Tottenham shirt before he wheeled away in celebration.
Lucas Bergvall is now expressing himself after a tricky start
There was plenty of hype surrounding Tottenham’s acquisition of Bergvall as he is widely viewed as a generational talent back in Sweden.
The anticipation and the expectations of the Spurs fan base only grew in light of the impressive displays that the 18-year-old was delivering in pre-season.
However, the teenager has found life tough in his first six months in the Premier League and, at times, has struggled with the increase in pace and intensity of the game at the highest level.
There are now clear signs that he is starting to adapt to live at Spurs as he is now playing with freedom and appears to be getting better with each performance.
Bergvall admits Wednesday was the fulfilment of a dream
The Swede delivered what was undoubtedly his best performance in a Tottenham shirt against the Reds, showing tremendous energy off the ball and great composure and enterprise in possession.
Bergvall deservedly scored the winning goal, sweeping in a shot into the bottom corner after being found by Dominic Solanke‘s perfectly weighted pass.
Speaking after the 1-0 win, the midfielder told Tottenham’s official website: “It’s unbelievable! To score my first goal here at home in front of all the supporters, and a 1-0 win against Liverpool, it couldn’t be better.
“It’s a crazy feeling. Ever since I signed for Spurs, this was a dream. I’ve scored my first goal and hopefully now there will be many more to come. As the game went on, I just felt I got more energy and we helped each other as a team, worked really hard.
“Firstly, Dom was top – taking the ball down and then passing to me, it felt like it was the perfect pass and it was one touch into the first corner, a really good goal. It’s a great long ball from Pedro, Dom does a brilliant job, passes to me and I just… I didn’t know about the celebration. It was just a feeling. It’s unbelievable!”
Bergvall is hopeful Tottenham can build on this win
This win against Liverpool was a much-needed morale-booster for the Tottenham side, who have struggled to string good results together over the past couple of months.
The Lilywhites will hope to welcome back some of their injured players over the coming weeks, and Bergvall is hopeful that they can build on this latest win.
The youngster added: “It’s been tough in the last few weeks. We haven’t won many games and that’s tough to take, but we just have to keep going. Today, we earned this win and hopefully, we can keep it going.”
