Tottenham defender reveals he rejected Man City to join Ange Postecoglou

Luka Vuskovic has now opened up on how his move to Tottenham came about and his dream of playing with some of the big names in the Spurs squad.

Spurs signed Vuskovic from Hajduk Split back in 2023 and the centre-back has had two spells out on loan since. He spent last season at Polish side Radomiak Radom before making a temporary move to Belgian side Westerlo last summer.

The 17-year-old has won many admirers with his performances in the Jupiler Pro League this season, not only being dominant and composed at the back but also chipping in with six goals for his side.

Since moving to Antwerp, Luka Vuskovic has received rave reviews from experts and has also got Spurs fans very excited ahead of his arrival at Hotspur Way at the end of the season.

Vuskovic reveals he turned down Man City offer

The lanky defender has now confessed that he had a chance to go to the Etihad when Spurs approached him, but it was the Lilywhites’ project that interested him.

The teenager told Nieuwsblad: “Manchester City was the first club to approach me. Shortly after, my dad told me Tottenham were also interested. When I heard the details, I was convinced.”

The Croat also spoke about his dream of running out in a Spurs shirt in the near future, admitting that he cannot wait to play alongside Tottenham’s top defenders.

Vuskovic added: “What exactly is the plan now? I’ll just do what the club asks of me. Playing alongside defenders like Micky van de Ven or Romero is a dream. You naturally make progress in such an environment and you have to because the Premier League is such an intense competition.”

Spurs have become a very attractive destination for youngsters

Vuskovic is not alone in rejecting other big sides to come to Tottenham, with Lucas Bergvall turning down Barca to come to N17 while Archie Gray allegedly snubbed interest from Liverpool and Man City to join Spurs.

That shows that the elite young talent sees the current Tottenham project as a great platform to develop, given Ange Postecoglou‘s reputation for giving freedom to his players and his willingness to hand opportunities to youngsters.
