Tottenham star slammed for letting Zara employee run rings around him
One Tottenham defender has come under criticism for how easily he was beaten time and again in Tottenham’s FA Cup fourth-round clash against Tamworth.
Spurs just about avoided an historic FA Cup upset
When the game went into extra-time at the Lamb Ground, Tottenham fans would have feared the worst.
The headlines about the team once again delivering a ‘Spursy’ performance will have flashed before their eyes, with a historic upset looking very much against the cards as the non-league side continued to give as good as they got.
However, in the end, Tottenham were able to bring some big guns off the bench, and took advantage of the tired Tamworth legs, with the away side scoring three in extra-time to save Ange Postecoglou‘s blushes.
Tottenham man criticised for his defending
Almost no player who started for Spurs came away from the game with any credit as the Lilywhites struggled to impose themselves on the game and dominate like they were expected to.
However, Stephen Warnock was particularly struck by how much Pedro Porro struggled against Tamworth winger, Beck-Ray Besongbap Enoru, who appeared to run rings around the Spaniard.
Warnock, who was commentating on the game for BBC Radio 5 Live (12/01/25 from 12:30 pm), said: “Enoru has got the beating of Pedro Porro every single time. He is happy to go inside or outside.”
Let us remind you that one of these players is a professional footballer on £ 85,000 per week while the other is a part-timer who works in Zara.
Question marks remain about Pedro Porro’s defending
While Porro has some outstanding qualities which make him a real asset to the side going forward, his one-on-one defending is extremely inconsistent.
Given the way Tottenham play under Postecoglou, all members of their back four need to be good at defending one-v-one.
Porro is the odd man out and has been targeted by a number of wingers this season as the weak link. The Spaniard will have to work hard to improve that area of his game.
