Mark Lawrenson believes injuries may decide Wednesday’s North London Derby. After a couple of important cup victories, Tottenham may have to wait for their Premier League results to improve.

A positive week for Tottenham has shifted the mood

Wins can make everything feel better and two important victories have seen the mood lighten at Tottenham. Spurs grabbed a 1-0 lead against Liverpool, which they will take to Anfield in the Carabao Cup semi-final and progressed to the 4th round of the FA Cup after a victory against Tamworth.

Additionally, the squad has been boosted by the arrival of Antonin Kinsky and players returning from injury. Kinsky has kept two clean sheets in his first two appearances.

Richarlison, Mikey Moore and Ben Davies have all returned to training and will soon be integrated cautiously back into getting match minutes.

Despite Tottenham getting a few wins under their belt and Arsenal suffering back-to-back cup losses, Mark Lawrenson believes the Gunners will still take three points in the upcoming Premier League match.

In his Paddy Power Predictions, Lawrenson said “Arsenal are in a real tough run of games at the moment but they’ll obviously be well up for this one.

“There’s no such thing as fatigue when a derby rolls around. Bukayo Saka is a big miss but Tottenham really are down to the bare bones, especially at the back, and that tells at the top level.”

A weakened attack vs a weakened defence

Arsenal will be missing some important players, but they remain a very secure team that does not give away many chances, even against the best sides.

While Spurs will still be without their starting goalkeeper and three of their first-choice back four, the backshift defence of Archie Gray and Radu Dragusin have been playing together for over a month. They cannot overcome their inherent limitations in that time, but their understanding and performance have improved.

With Kinsky providing improved shot-stopping and on-the-ball ability, Spurs’ defence is not as fragile as it seems. Arsenal will still be a threat, but the game may come down to who can find better solutions for their team’s absences rather than indicative of either side’s strengths.
