Spurs’ growing interest in PSG outcasts

Paris Saint-Germain have been actively trimming their squad during the January transfer window, with a handful of high-profile names placed on the market.

Among these was Randal Kolo Muani, a player who attracted significant interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

The north London club pursued the forward with notable intent, including submitting an offer following discussions with the Ligue 1 champions, only to see Juventus secure his services instead.

However, Tottenham’s ambitions were not confined to reinforcing their attacking options. Reports indicate that Milan Skriniar, a central defender who joined PSG from Inter Milan in July 2023, was also on their radar.

Tottenham and Aston Villa’s pursuit of Milan Skriniar

According to reports from French outlet L’Equipe, Tottenham Hotspur have a ‘real desire’ to secure Milan Skriniar during this window, positioning themselves as proactive in discussions.

PSG, keen to offload the defender, are said to favour a loan agreement featuring a purchase option that could become mandatory under specific, straightforward conditions.

Such a structure would provide flexibility for potential buyers while offering PSG a route to finalise the player’s departure.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, are described as lingering “in the wings”—prepared to capitalise should Tottenham stumble in their efforts to negotiate a deal.

While it remains unclear what formula either club would prefer, the report highlights the advanced nature of Tottenham’s interest compared to Villa’s, suggesting that Spurs hold the advantage in this particular chase.

Milan Skriniar’s growing interest outside the Premier League

The publication also reports that beyond the Premier League, other clubs, including Turkish sides Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, have reportedly expressed interest, with the latter rumoured to be willing to offer €15 million for the defender.

However, challenges remain, particularly concerning his salary expectations, as Skriniar’s free-agent arrival at PSG came with significant financial terms.

Any potential suitor will need to navigate these complexities while fending off competition from clubs outside the Premier League.

One thing is certain, if Spurs do not act swiftly, there will be a repeat of the Kolo Muani situation where they once more fall short of signing their main target.
