Dejan Kulusevski sends message to Daniel Levy, Postecoglou and Spurs squad
Tottenham Hotspur winger Dejan Kulusevski has shared his honest assessment of Arsenal’s strengths after Spurs suffered yet another defeat in the North London Derby. The midfielder also called on everyone at the club to take responsibility, from the top to the bottom.
A familiar story in the North London Derby
Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Arsenal marked their eleventh loss of the season and their seventh defeat to their fiercest rivals in the last decade, a statistic that will sting deeply for the club’s fans.
A loss in the North London Derby has a way of cutting deeper than most, and for Spurs, these defeats have become an all-too-familiar reality over the past four and a half years.
Tottenham enjoyed a brief period of dominance in this fixture during Mikel Arteta’s early tenure as Arsenal manager, with Spurs securing three consecutive victories at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, that moment of supremacy now feels like a distant memory, with Arsenal seizing control of the rivalry in recent seasons.
Ahead of this latest clash, there were hopes that Ange Postecoglou’s men could rise to the occasion despite an ongoing injury crisis, but what unfolded was a performance that left much to be desired.
Arsenal once again dominated, leaving Tottenham exposed and underscoring the gulf in quality between the two sides.
Dejan Kulusevski, Tottenham’s standout player this season, was a mere shadow of his usual self, unable to influence proceedings as Arsenal imposed their will on the match.
Dejan Kulusevski on Spurs responsibility
After the match, Dejan Kulusevski provided a candid evaluation of Arsenal’s strengths and Tottenham’s shortcomings during a post-match interview with TNT Sports.
The Sweden international, who joined Tottenham Hotspur from Juventus in 2022, did not shy away from praising the opposition while acknowledging Spurs’ own failings.
He said: “They are very strong. They are very strong defensively. Second half we played a little bit more offensive but not good enough.
“Not enough quality and physically Arsenal, we tried, but it was not good enough.
Then asked about Ange Postecoglou’s position, Kulusevski continued: “Everyone takes responsibility. People ahead of us. Players, the manager, nobody can hide in the corner.
“The first goal they score, we should get a goal kick, that’s exactly what we should get. It’s happened now three games in a row.”
A painful reminder of the gap between the two clubs
This latest defeat serves as a stark reminder of the growing disparity between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, not just in the North London Derby but in the broader context of English football.
Arsenal have built a cohesive and balanced squad under Mikel Arteta, while Tottenham are still searching for consistency under Ange Postecoglou in what is his second season at the club.
Statistically, the difference between the two sides is glaring. Arsenal have lost only twice in the Premier League this season, while Tottenham are dangerously close to slipping into a relegation battle if their current form continues.
Spurs’ inability to secure results in key fixtures has been compounded by injuries, but it is evident that deeper issues persist within the squad. At Hotspur Way, the focus now must shift towards steadying the ship.
