Club hoping Nottingham Forest hand Spurs a small financial boost
An interesting update emerges over the future of former Tottenham man Marcus Edwards, who is reportedly looking to seal a return to England before the transfer window shuts.
Marcus Edwards’ relationship with Sporting Lisbon has soured
It was not too long ago that Edwards was fast emerging as one of the most exciting attackers in Portuguese football and was embarrassing defences in the Europa League.
That is why the Tottenham academy graduate has regularly been linked with a return to N17 over the last few transfer windows.
The relationship between the 26-year-old and Sporting Lisbon has now reportedly soured, with the winger’s lack of discipline and his attitude allegedly rubbing a lot of people the wrong way.
It emerged last week that the Portuguese club were desperate to move on Marcus Edwards and were willing to sell him for a cut-price fee before the January window shuts.
Marcus Edwards may return to the Premier League
A fresh update from Record (as relayed by Sport Witness) has also bluntly confirmed that Edwards’s future will not be in Alvalade.
It is explained that Sporting are now evaluating various ways to offload the former Tottenham man, including a loan and a permanent deal, with the club willing to cash in on the player for just €8m-€10m (£6.7m-£8.4m).
Interestingly, it is revealed that Premier League clubs such as Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace are among those to show interest in Edwards.
The likes of Olympiacos and Al-Nassr are also on the winger’s trail, but he is thought to be ‘giving preference’ to a return to England.
What do Tottenham stand to gain from Edwards’s transfer?
As has been extensively covered over recent years, this report also reminds us that Spurs retain a 35 per cent sell-on clause on Edwards.
That means that if either Palace or Forest pay £8.5m for the wide-man, Tottenham stand to receive almost £3m out of that fee.
Interestingly, this also means that Spurs could sign Edwards on a discount if Postecoglou‘s men did decide to make a move for their former player.
