Spurs fans react as Ange Postecoglou defends club’s transfer inactivity
Ange Postecoglou’s comments on Tottenham’s transfer strategy have divided fans and some have hit out against Daniel Levy and the Spurs hierarchy.
What did Ange Postecoglou say about Spurs’ transfers?
After Spurs’ 3-1 defeat to Everton, Postecoglou addressed the club’s transfer activity, or lack thereof, during his post-match interview with Sky.
The Tottenham boss insisted, “There will be urgency but it doesn’t need me to say it, everybody can see that. I have no issues with how the club are going about it, they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players need help that is for sure and hopefully over the next 10 days or so we’ll find a solution. It is really tricky, we’re not the only ones in the market. The club are trying hard.”
While Postecoglou’s comments may seem optimistic, the fanbase has been less forgiving, with many taking to social media to voice their frustration.
The majority of Spurs fans directed their anger at Daniel Levy and the club’s lack of urgency in bolstering the squad, while others criticised Postecoglou himself, labelling him a “yes man.”
Spurs fans react to lack of January transfers
The Spurs Web’s post of Ange’s comments sparked a flurry of heated responses from fans, many of whom ridiculed the idea that the club is “trying hard” in the transfer market.
One fan remarked, “The only reason Ange still has a job is coz he’s done such a good job in sucking up to Levy. Loss after loss after loss but Ange’s job has been safe as he’ll never criticise the transfer business. Excellent strategy.”
Another fan dismissed the manager’s claim entirely, stating, “A club working hard doesn’t look like this, mate,” while a third simply quipped, “Have an issue Ange, that’s the problem!!!”
The recurring theme in several replies was frustration at Ange being perceived as a “yes man.” One fan wrote, “Here’s your reason why Levy won’t sack him. Yes man.”
Fans lashed out at Daniel Levy while others blamed Ange Postecoglou’s tactics. One fan slammed his approach, saying, “The biggest problem is Ange’s poor tactics.” Another dismissed new signings altogether, insisting, “Signing new players is going to make zero difference.”
The Spurs fanbase may be divided on whether they support Ange or not, but one thing is certain— almost no one is defending Daniel Levy.
One fan wrote, “Levy waiting until deadline day to save on wages.” Another said, “The club is not trying hard enough. Levy knows Spurs will have most of their defenders back in the coming weeks. With just 10 days remaining in the transfer window, it’s unlikely he’ll push for another signing.”
Ange Postecoglou is not the problem at Spurs
Fans were assured of January signings, but as we approach the window’s final stretch, the squad remains alarmingly thin. Postecoglou did say that Spurs are not the only ones in the transfer market but even smaller clubs like Ipswich have outperformed the Lilywhites this transfer window.
With the club still active in the FA Cup, Europa League, and the Carabao Cup semi-finals, reinforcements are not just essential but are a must.
Sacking Ange will not solve the problem. Against Everton, Ange coached a 3-1 win. Every goal Spurs conceded came from poor defending or midfielders giving the ball away in dangerous areas. But I’m not blaming the players either. With a rotated and rested squad, this could have been a comfortable win. With injuries piling up and just enough players to field a team, it’s unfair to solely criticise his tactics.
Yes, there were tactical adjustments. Ange switched to a back three, with Pedro Porro and Djed Spence playing more advanced roles. However, he quickly reverted to his traditional system at half-time. The defeat stemmed from individual errors, not tactical incompetence.
Solanke’s injury is the perfect example. He started six of Spurs’ last seven games, playing the full 90 minutes in each. Unsurprisingly, he’s now sidelined for three weeks. This is not some sort of coincidence. It’s a direct result of failing to manage the squad properly, which stems from the lack of depth.
Those calling Ange a “yes man” need to understand the risks of speaking out at the club’s senior management. We all remember what happened to Antonio Conte after his public criticism of Levy. Even José Mourinho, when asked about his relationship with the club, blamed Levy for not getting him the players he wanted.
The common denominator remains Daniel Levy. The club must back the manager with the right support and players to succeed. Until that happens, debating whether to keep or sack Ange is pointless.
