Tottenham desperately need to sign a left-back

One would think that the injury to Destiny Udogie has forced Spurs’ hand, who now have no choice but to enter the market for a new left-back this window.

That was certainly the opinion of Alasdair Gold, who suggested two weeks ago that Tottenham would be ‘forced’ to prioritise a new left-back and named Patrick Dorgu as one of the potential options.

Gold is not the only journalist to report on Spurs’ interest in the Lecce man, but it has also emerged over recent weeks that Man Utd are ready to challenge the Lilywhites in the race for the Dane.

Man United make the first move for Patrick Dorgu

Unfortunately for Tottenham, it appears that Man Utd have now become the first ones to step up their efforts to sign Dorgu.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now claimed that United have begun talks to sign the pacy wide-man from Lecce.

Ornstein makes it clear that the talks are only at an early stage and that nothing has been agreed yet, but he reveals that the dialogue between the parties ‘is progressing’.

The journalist adds that Ruben Amorim wants to add more players who will suit his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, with Dorgu seen as a good fit by the Portuguese coach.

Will Tottenham be forced to act on Patrick Dorgu?

We know that Spurs need a left-back and Dorgu has been on the club’s radar for a while.

It would thus be extremely surprising if Tottenham sit idly and let the Red Devils hammer out a deal with Lecce. One would expect Spurs to get involved in the race over the coming days.

Man Utd are in just as precarious a position as Postecoglou‘s men are in the Premier League table, which is why there is no excuse for Tottenham not to go toe-to-toe with Manchester club for the Denmark international.
