It has been widely reported over recent weeks that Douglas Luiz has been offered to Tottenham while other sources have indicated that the 26-year-old wants to remain in Turin and fight for his place.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now provided a fresh update on Luiz‘s future, revealing that Manchester City are considering whether to make a move for the former Villa man.

Ornstein explains that Pep Guardiola’s side have not ruled out strengthening in the middle of the park, with the Brazilian being one of multiple options that they have identified.

However, the journalist adds that the Premier League champions are only interested in a straight loan for Luiz while the Bianconeri want an obligation to buy to be included in the deal.

Why loan deals might suit Tottenham right now

Tottenham are in a tricky position right now as it is far from a given that Ange Postecoglou will still be at the club at the end of this season.

In that scenario, it might not be too prudent to spend big on players that the Australian likes as there is no guarantee that those signings would be rated by whoever replaces the 59-year-old at the helm.

A loan deal with an option to buy thus helps Spurs cover all basis and Luiz would be a useful addition to the squad, given the experience he has in the Premier League.
