Former Tottenham striker directly calls out Daniel Levy and the board
Former Tottenham striker Mido has unleashed on Daniel Levy and the Spurs top brass, putting the club’s current predicament down to their misplaced priorities.
Tottenham find themselves in a precarious position
Things have not been as bad as this at Spurs for a very long time, with the club sitting just eight points above the drop zone after 22 league games, a situation that was previously unconscionable.
While many have suggested that the club might have no choice but to make a managerial change, some have pointed the finger at Daniel Levy and the Spurs hierarchy rather than towards Ange Postecoglou.
Mido is one of those, with the Egyptian making some explosive claims about how his former club is run by those at the top.
Mido questions the priority of Tottneham’s owners
Mido refused to put the blame on Postecoglou, insisting that the problem stems from the fact that the Spurs hierarchy prioritises financial success over on-field success.
The pundit suggested that the Lilywhites now find it very difficult to attract top players due to the way they have been run.
When asked about Tottenham’s current predicament, Mido told talkSPORT: “It’s embarrassing. But I don’t think the main problem is Ange. Or any other coach and I’m being honest here. The people at the top have been running the club from a financial point of view, not from a football point of view.
“I feel sorry for every Spurs fan, and I’m one of them, the club has been run with these ideas. I always believe you have to find the balance between the technical operation and the right investment. And with Daniel Levy, the people at the top, I have all the respect for them, but I think their first concern is to make money out of this football club.
“Tottenham is a huge club with a great history. The best stadium in England, with the best facilities. Any player in the world would be proud to play for such a big club like Tottenham.
“But now it’s very difficult to attract top players. It’s even more difficult to attract top coaches. It’s obvious that the management and the board, their first concern when it comes to the club is to make money, not to win trophies.”
Mido says change has to come from the top
The former Tottenham striker insisted that the culture at the club will only change if Levy and the club’s board set winning trophies as their top priority.
The 41-year-old added: “If the chairman and the board are winning and planning to take this club to the top, it will filter down to the young supporters in the stand.
“It comes from good transfers, it comes from keeping your best players. The club have the qualities to be in a much better place compared to where they are now.
“I’m saying this because I love this football club, I am honoured to have played for Tottenham. Football is simple. You spend money the right way, you have the right mentality, and it goes to everyone at the football club.”
