Tottenham player ratings vs Hoffenheim

Brandon Austin: On only his second Tottenham appearance, it was a night of ups and downs for Austin. He made a brilliant save at full-stretch in the first half to keep his sheet clean, but early in the second half, it looked like he had conceded a penalty. That decision was overturned, and rightfully so, but minutes later, Hoffenheim scored. Austin wasn’t at all to blame for the goal, but he would’ve been disappointed not to shut out Hoffenheim completely. 7.

Pedro Porro: Porro was superb tonight. He put Maddison on a plate for the opening goal with a lofted through ball that couldn’t have been more perfect if he tried, and was decent defensively too. It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, though, as he was beaten too easily at the back post and Mokwa headed home for the hosts. 7.5.

Radu Dragusin: Dragusin was decent defensively when called upon, but his on-the-ball woes continued for all to see. It’s no secret that he’s just a decent defender playing in the wrong system. 6.

Ben Davies: Spurs were on the back foot for much of the early second half, but Davies rose to the challenge. He’s called Mr. Reliable for a reason, as he rarely puts a foot wrong for Tottenham. He certainly didn’t tonight. 6.5.

Archie Gray: Gray, playing at left-back tonight, was solid as per. He made a few important defensive interventions throughout the ninety and posed a little bit of a threat going forward too. Gray’s versatility is probably the saving grace of Spurs’ season, honestly. Where would we be without him? 7.

Rodrigo Bentancur: Bentancur battled hard in the midfield tonight on his return from injury, bossing the midfield alongside Betgvall. He was up and down the pitch, pressing hard and well, and making vital interceptions, such as the one that led to Spurs’ third goal. 8.

Lucas Bergvall: Bergvall continued his impressive run of form and he’s really beginning to establish himself as a starter, even when all of Spurs’ midfielders are fit. He was cute with his passing, and exceptionally with his pressing. Special! 8.

James Maddison: Maddison opened the scoring for Spurs with an exquisite finish past Baumann, before turning provider for Son to make it 0-2, after a showing of real strength, will, and determination to create the opportunity. Madders played a crucial role in tonight’s win with a performance he will be proud of. 9.

Dejan Kulusevski: Kulusevski looked understandably exhausted tonight, as he’s been run into the ground in recent weeks. His technical prowess and physical strength were important in grinding out a win tonight, and he continues to be a pivotal part of Spurs’s season. 7.

Richarlison: Richy, still recovering from a long-term injury, started for the first time in what feels like forever tonight. He started brightly, looking to create opportunities whenever he had possession of the ball, but as the game grew on, he faded with it. He was eventually replaced by Moore just before the hour mark. 6.5.

Heung-min Son: Son felt relief as he finally netted another Tottenham goal, albeit with a bit of luck on his side. Maddison put him through on goal, and he got his shot away just in time – it took a deflection that took it past the keeper, making it two for Tottenham. Sonny made it a brace in the second half with a vintage goal on his weaker foot that he swept into the far corner, and that’s certainly the Sonny us Spurs fans know. He was surely the difference tonight! 9.5.

Substitutes:

Mikey Moore: Mikey replaced Richarlison and instantly brought back Tottenham’s spark. He registered an assist for Tottenham’s third, and his ball-carrying was essential in Spurs’ win. He drove at defenders and always looked for a positive pass to play. Spurs fans cannot wait to see more of him in the coming games, and he will surely play a crucial role. 7.5.

Will Lankshear: Lankshear replaced Son and was important as a physical presence up top. N/A.

Callum Olusesi: It was a great moment for Callum as he made his first-team debut! N/A.
