Dissatisfaction brewing in the Spurs dressing room

The Daily Mail, this week has offered insight into the troubled atmosphere within the Tottenham Hotspur squad, following a dreadful run of form that has left fans and players equally disheartened.

This period of struggle has been marked by back-to-back defeats to their fierce rival Arsenal and an embarrassing loss to relegation-threatened Everton.

As it stands, Tottenham have managed only one victory in their last ten league fixtures, leaving them perilously close to being dragged into a relegation battle.

According to reports from the publication, this dismal run of results has sown division within the dressing room, with fractures emerging over support for Ange Postecoglou’s training methods, who is enduring the most challenging period of his tenure.

However, Alasdair Gold has since come out and denied these rumours (Gold and Guest talk Tottenham podcast).

They have also revealed that there has been a dissatisfaction within the squad regarding the benching of two key Spurs stars. The unrest continues as the outlet is now reporting the departure of vice-captain Cristian Romero.

Cristian Romero linked with a Tottenham exit

According to the Daily Mail, Cristian Romero has emerged as a potential transfer target for clubs in Spain, and the Argentine defender is thought to be open to the prospect of leaving Tottenham during the upcoming summer transfer window.

While no specific clubs have been named, the prospect of a move to La Liga could appeal to Romero, who has established himself as a standout figure in Tottenham’s defence.

The potential defensive crisis awaiting Tottenham

If Cristian Romero were to leave in the summer, Tottenham’s defensive depth would be left in a precarious state.

At present, the club would be reduced to just two recognised centre-backs: Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin, a scenario that highlights the glaring lack of depth in this crucial area of the squad.

The situation could become even more dire if Ben Davies, whose contract is set to expire, does not agree to an extension, leaving the club with further gaps to fill in their defensive ranks.

Chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange will undoubtedly face pressure to address these issues in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Regardless of Romero’s future, Tottenham’s defensive vulnerabilities have been exposed throughout the season, and reinforcements are essential if they are to regain stability.
