Tottenham have been one of several clubs keeping tabs on Southampton starlet, Tyler Dibling. However, the Saints are refusing the let go of their talented academy product for less than a record fee for an 18-year-old.

Tyler Dibling has been a glimmering silver lining amongst a disappointing return to the Premier League for Southampton. The Saints are bottom of the Premier League table and, at this stage of the season, are statistically likely to be relegated in May.

Tyler Dibling has caught the eye of several top clubs during this inaugural year of senior football. Able to play on the right or in attacking midfield, the 18-year-old is announcing himself as a bright prospect for the future.

Despite Southampton’s low position in the table, the club are reportedly refusing to entertain offers beneath £55m for Tyler Dibling in January (Lyall Thomas on X).

Dibling is being monitored by Tottenham, Aston Villa and Chelsea, but Southampton are intent on retaining their star teenager and want to offer him a contract extension.

Among his suitors, Dibling has reportedly shown a preference for joining Tottenham. However, such a steep asking price may push the pursuit Spurs’ pursuit of the teenager to the summer transfer window.

Tottenham need someone who can contribute immediately

Tyler Dibling’s ability to dribble past opponents on the right fulfils a clear need in Tottenham’s squad. However, while Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have adapted wonderfully to the Premier League, adding another teenager begins to dramatically reduce the amount of senior experience within the squad.

Additionally, Min-hyeok Yang is a similar age to Dibling and with Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert, there would be 4 very young players competing for the same positions.

There is indisputable value in keeping future development in mind while squad building. However, if there is any intention for Ange Postecoglou to succeed this season, he needs a wide player who can contribute immediately to Spurs’ attempt to compete in multiple competitions.

Tyler Dibling is extremely talented but with only 24 senior appearances, he may not have the experience with which to adapt to a club playing in Europe at such a young age.
