Leeds United could move for Tottenham squad player – Former scout predicts

Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown has heard some interesting information coming out of Hotspur Way, asserting that he expects one experienced Spurs defender to seal a move to Leeds United before the end of the transfer window.

Leeds United want to sign an experienced Spurs man

The player in question is Ben Davies, who has once again proven his reliability and utility for the squad this season in light of Tottenham’s injury woes.

It has now emerged recently that Leeds United are interested in securing the services of the Welshman, who is thought to be valued at around £10m.

Former Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson talked up the possibility of the move going through, stating a couple of days ago that the Championship outfit are well placed to sign Ben Davies.

Mick Brown makes a surprising Ben Davies prediction

Mick Brown, who has previously worked as a scout for Tottenham and remains well-connected with officials at the club, reveals that Leeds do hold a serious interest in Davies.

He asserted that Tottenham would be open to cashing in on the 31-year-old as long as they manage to bring another defender through the door this month.

When asked about the speculation linking Davies with a move to Elland Road, Brown told Football Insider: “That would be a good move for him. They’ve got a strong Welsh contingent at Leeds which could help convince him to make the move, and I hear he’s a player they would like to bring in.

“From what I know at Tottenham, they don’t regard Davies as a nailed-on first-team player. He’s been called upon recently because of their injuries, but I don’t think he’s in their plans long-term. He does well when he’s called upon, can play left-back or centre-back, but I don’t think he’s regarded as that much of an important player there.

“I can see that changing if he goes to Leeds, though, he’d be an important asset there. He’ll give them some know-how and stability which I think they’ve lacked, and his experience will help them when things get tough towards the end of the season.

“It’s a move that makes a lot of sense to me, and I think Tottenham might be open to it as well surprisingly, especially if they can bring in a new defender. I think there’s a strong possibility this one gets done.”

Spurs will not consider weakening their squad

If there is one lesson that Postecoglou and the Tottenham hierarchy have learned over the past few months, it is the importance of filling your squad with quality backups, especially versatile options who can cover multiple areas.

There is no chance that the club would risk leaving themselves short in defence by selling Davies even if they bring another defender through the door.

The former Swansea City man’s future at Tottenham will be re-assessed at the end of the campaign, but it would make no sense from a Spurs perspective to lose a vital squad player mid-season.
