Tottenham Hotspur are considering whether they should insert themselves in the race to sign one of the most prolific strikers in European football after seeing a Serie A club push ahead with a move for the player.

Spurs looking to sign a forward before transfer deadline

It has been widely reported by a number of sources over recent weeks that Tottenham are determined to bring a new forward through the door before the window slams shut on February 3.

However, it is unclear who Spurs‘ top striker target is after they failed to push through a deal for Randal Kolo Muani, who has joined Juventus instead.

It has now been suggested that the Lilywhites are considering making a surprise move for a prolific centre-forward after hearing that Milan are making advances towards his signing.

Spurs could make a late move for Santiago Gimenez

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham are ‘contemplating’ whether to ‘rush into negotiations’ with Feyenoord for the services of Santiago Gimenez.

The report says that Postecoglou‘s men are keen to add more firepower to their squad before the window closes, particularly after Dominic Solanke’s injury.

Spurs have been put on red alert after Milan have pushed forward with talks over Gimenez, who has a long-term target for the Premier League side.

The outlet claims that the North London club are now ‘toying with the idea’ of swooping for the Mexican in the final days of the transfer window and are ‘threatening’ to wreck the Rossoneri’s transfer plans.

Spurs will have to pay a steep fee to land Santiago Gimenez

However, a deal for Gimenez might not be straightforward for Tottenham as Feyenoord are not particularly keen on cashing in on their star man at this stage.

The report explains that the Dutch club have previously turned down approaches from Bayer Leverkusen and Nottingham Forest for the centre-forward and are hoping that a bidding war ensues for the player between Milan and Spurs.

The publication asserts that Tottenham need to enter the race quickly if they are to have a chance of landing the former Cruz Azul man, with Milan looking to hammer out an agreement.

It is suggested that if Spurs do formalise their interest in the 24-year-old over the coming days, Feyenoord could demand £40m for the striker.
