Postecoglou faces challenge with ‘complicated character’ who started against Leicester
A report has revealed that Ange Postecoglou faces a difficult challenge in trying to get the best out of one Tottenham man, who is yet to consistently deliver for a sustained period in a Spurs shirt.
Tottenham’s striker dilemma
One could make the case that Dominic Solanke has been Tottenham’s best player this season apart from Dejan Kulusevski, with the striker’s work both on and off the ball being crucial to the way the Lilywhites play.
That is why his injury comes as a big blow to Spurs, but thankfully, Postecoglou now has Richarlison to turn to as the Brazilian is now back from his injury layoff.
The former Everton man showed his value on Sunday, peeling away impressively at the far post to head Pedro Porro‘s cross into the back of the net, but it has emerged that the Tottenham boss faces one big challenge regarding the striker.
Ange Postecoglou’s Richarlison’s challenge
The Times’ Tom Allnutt has now described Richarlison as a ‘complicated character’ and revealed that coaches at Tottenham have found it difficult to engage with the player.
The report points out that Antonio Conte was not too happy when the Brazilian complained about his lack of game time two seasons ago, with Italian even labelling him as ‘selfish’.
Allnutt explains that Postecoglou has not been one to cosy up to his players over his managerial career, which is why he faces a challenge in getting the best out of the 27-year-old.
The journalist suggests that Postecoglou‘s man-management could thus make all the difference, with a confident and healthy Richarlison being capable of making the difference for Spurs, especially during the absence of Solanke.
Postecoglou has publicly backed Richarlison
There would have been times when Postecoglou has been left extremely frustrated with Richarlison‘s injury issues, but the Tottenham boss has never let that spill over.
He has always publicly talked up the striker, pointing out that he has found the back of the net when he has played regularly.
Over the weekend, the Australian said about Richarlison (via The Standard): “I don’t think Richy cares about Dom Solanke or anybody else. When Richy is playing he is Brazil’s No.9.
“When he played for us last year he was scoring goals. I don’t think Richy was ever worried. I think he will welcome Dom coming back. Both of them playing together could be a force for us. I don’t think that factors into it.”
