Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a striker continues, this time they have been linked with a move for a Bayern Munich forward who sees Harry Kane as a role model.

Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a forward this winter window continues as the club is still being linked with a move for several forwards.

Just yesterday, reports emerged that Spurs are considering AS Monaco’s Breel Embolo. Last week, Tottenham’s interest in Liam Delap was also reported.

However, despite all these links no move has materialised – this is a major concern as the club are without Dominic Solanke, Johnson and Werner as a result of injuries. As their search continues, they have now been linked with Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel.

Mathys Tel will be able to ask his club teammate Harry Kane all about Spurs – and it looks as though the youngster holds the England captain in high esteem.

Back in 2023, Tel said this about Kane (Bundesliga): “He’s a great striker. He has shown that across his career. I’m a striker too, so he’s a role model for me.

“It’s important to have people to learn from technically and in terms of finishing. Often I don’t even have to ask him.

“He just comes over to me and tells me: ‘Mathys, you can do that, or that’. He’s a role model to me, and he is helping me a lot.”

Spurs register interest in Mathys Tel but face strong competition

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have shown serious intent in signing Tel, though the London club must first convince the teenager to make the move to Stamford Bridge in the coming days.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have now officially entered the race for the forward, but with competition from multiple clubs, it remains to be seen whether they can finalise a deal for the Frenchman.

It is understood that Tottenham briefly discussed the possibility of signing Tel during the summer of 2023 when they sold Kane to Bayern, though nothing materialised at that time.

Now, with Bayern willing to sanction a loan, Spurs have revisited the idea, although they will need to move swiftly if they wish to secure his signature.

Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with Tel in recent days, adding to the intense competition for his services.

Is Mathys Tel a realistic target for Spurs?

While Ange Postecoglou’s side’s interest in Tel is clear, the likelihood of the deal happening is still up for debate. Bild have also reported Chelsea’s pursuit of the forward, but crucially, they state that Tel himself has no desire to join the Blues.

The young striker is reportedly concerned about the level of competition at Stamford Bridge and feels that he would struggle to secure regular playing time.

From Tottenham’s perspective, Tel’s reluctance to join Chelsea could work in their favour, as it suggests he is prioritising a move where he would be given opportunities to play.

However, as of now, there is no concrete evidence that Spurs have made a formal move to sign him
